Who Am I...
ANA DE BRITO BRAZ DE OLIVEIRA

I completed my Integrated Masters Degree in Clinical and Health Psychology at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Lisbon – in the area of Integrative Cognitive-Behavioral Psychotherapy. I am an effective member of the Order of Portuguese Psychologists.

I have additional training in the areas of:

- Intervention with Children and Young People at Risk

- Domestic Violence: Understanding to Intervene”.

I started my professional experience with psychological assessment and intervention with children in the hospital pediatrics department, where I worked with children who presented vulnerabilities in emotional, cognitive and/or relational development. In a systemic and comprehensive approach, interventions in this context included parenting support strategies, in terms of educational models and practices, which would facilitate the positive evolution of the child.

Then, I worked at a Child Care Residence, where I helped children and young people in repairing traumatic experiences. Interventions also focused on promoting emotional and social skills, including difficulties in relationships with peers, managing emotions, reducing fears and promoting self-awareness strategies, as well as improving self-esteem.

Playful, creative and expressive methods of intervention, which are privileged instruments in the mission of Hakuna Matata Therapeutic Clinic, are the basis of the work I develop with the children I work with. It is through the child's imaginary world that I get closer to her, seeking, with her, solutions to her difficulties, in constant partnership with her family.

In accordance with the conclusions of the research project that I presented at the international congress of the Sociedade de Exploração da Integração Psicoterapêutica (XXXV Annual Meeting - Lisbon, Portugal) - "Study of the main factors of dropout in psychotherapy from the client´s perspective", the therapist's relationship with the child is the key instrument for their evolution and therefore "If you can't look on the bright side, I'll sit on the darker side with you" - Alice in Wonderland.
