WHO AM I...
PEDRO RODRIGUES
My admiration for people, with their connections and the way they relate and interact with each other and with what surrounds them, is what has led me to the current point of my professional career. I chose to be a Social Worker and what motivated me the most in my work led me, by vocation and passion, to seek specialized training in Family Therapy, through the Sociedade de Terapia Familiar.
I started my professional career in Residential Care, with foster children and with the mission of helping these children and their families of origin. It was here that my path merged, many times, with emotionally fragile families, a consequence of traumatic and impactful experiences and life stories. The work carried out with these families was essentially focused on promoting parenting skills, managing their relationships and strengthening their roles, which are determinant in the development of their children. It was here that I got to know people's resilience and discovered ways to help them leverage their strengths, to overcome their adversities.
The promotion of positive parenting, based on the search for family strengths, is what best defines my professional intervention and it was what motivated me to look for new professional challenges, in preventing cuts in family relationships and in a dimension of family preservation. I am, therefore, since 2018, developing my professional activity, in a Family Intervention and Training Team, where I support families in the search for solutions to weaknesses identified in the development of parenting.
I believe that the strengths of each element of a family contribute to solving the problems that often arise in its development cycle, strengths that are not always easy to find, together and without support. However, as I identify with the inspiration passed on to us by the Hunchback of Notre Dame, I believe that “Today is a good day to try.”and that the magic and creativity that are present at Hakuna Matata Therapeutic Clinic will be the perfect formula for this attempt by families to be successful.
